LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Rene Hanebutt scored a career-high 33 points as No. 11 Texas Tech jumped out to a 14-0 lead and defeated Nebraska 75-62 Sunday.
Texas Tech (23-3, 12-2 Big 12) never trailed. But Nebraska (17-10, 6-8) cut the lead to one on Naciska Gilmore's short jumper with 17:42 remaining that made the score 32-31.
Tech's Julie Lake responded with a jump shot. The Cornhuskers missed two more chances and saw Angie Braziel hit a short jumper and Hanebutt hit a 3-pointer to put the Lady Raiders up 39-31 with 15:55 remaining.
Nebraska cut the lead to 41-37 on Nicole Kubik's jumper with 12:23 remaining. But Tech tightened its defense and went on a 13-2 run, taking a 54-39 lead on Hanebutt's seventh 3-pointer of the game with 8:54 remaining.
A final Husker flurry cut the lead to eight at 58-50 on Brooke Schwartz's layup with 6:07 remaining. Then Braziel took over, scoring seven points in a 9-2 Tech run that put the game out of reach.
Hanebutt opened the game with two 3-pointers over Nebraska's zone defense. Lake added a 3-pointer, Braziel had a pair of free throws, then Hanebutt hit her third 3-pointer with 16:39 remaining to give Tech the 14-0 lead. Nebraska came back within five in the first half and trailed 32-23 at the half.
Texas Tech's margin of victory came at the free-throw line, where the Lady Raiders were 23 of 35, compared to 12 of 17 for Nebraska.
Braziel had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Tech and Keitha Dickerson added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Kubik led Nebraska with 17. Schwartz had 14 for the Huskers.
