Texas Tech Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Kristy Curry

Opening statement…

“We got off to kind of a slow start. You have to give credit to (K-State’s) energy and their five great seniors. They came out and they were aggressive early. We got down by 17 and as many bad things as we had happen, we just kept fighting and that has been the tale of our season. I am so thankful that these kids came out on the good end tonight. When we needed to make plays the most, we made them. It was a great game, kind of like it was in Lubbock and it was an all out Big 12 battle."

On Texas Tech’s defensive effort…

“We talked at halftime and said that we cannot give up 36 points in a half. We came out defensively and I thought we did a much better job communicating and obviously if you can shoot 50 percent, that is great. We have been extremely cold and we missed free throws but we were able to come out and get some stops and I think it was a 42-11 run. So just credit our kids for sticking together. I am really happy for them tonight.”

On her team’s improvements…

“I think that the ball went into the basket and against Oklahoma, if you look back to the film, we did everything right up until the ball left our hand. We just could not finish with a make. I liked our execution but the ball did just not go in against Oklahoma, but tonight we were able to make some shots and get some stops. It was that combination that helped us out. It was just great perseverance by our kids and I am really proud of them.”

Senior Forward Jordan Barncastle

On gaining momentum heading into the postseason…

“This is the kind of success that we needed to have going into a big week with the Big 12 Championships. We just needed things to fall our way and that kind of happened tonight. We were able to hit some shots and that is exactly what we need as we head into the Big 12 tournament.”

On tonight’s victory…

“Coach Curry always says that it is a game of runs and it is whoever sustains the longest run. We were able to do that tonight. We hit some big shots and made some big defensive plays. We paid attention to the personal, scouting tendencies and everything that we need to be successful. Our shots were falling and that is why were successful tonight.”
