Nov. 8, 1999

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders put a basketball court on the floor of the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum for the last time for a pre-season exhibition against the Shelen Basketball Club of Russia Monday.

This time, the hardcourt went on top of the Lubbock Cotton Kings' home ice and the Lady Raiders used a second half power play to defeat Shelen 76-49.

Texas Tech led by four points at intermission, but stretched out to a 10-point margin by the midway point of the second half.

Plenette Pierson made her Lady Raider debut in style, scoring a team high nine points in the final 20 minutes. Pierson, Keitha Dickerson and Katrisa O'Neal combined for 22 second-half points to lead the Lady Raider charge.

O'Neal scored a game-high 21 points, 15 of which came in the first half. Dickerson finished with 15 rebounds and 13 points.

Melinda Schmucker-Pharies returned to her role as floor leader as she handed out a game-high seven assists. Schmucker-Pharies said the exhibition game offered the team the welcomed chance to face unfamiliar faces.

"Everybody was anxious to get in a game situation," Schmucker-Pharies said. "Everybody was anxious to play somebody else after playing each other in practice."

The Lady Raiders will play their first home game in the United Spirit Arena on Nov. 20. Texas Tech is set to host the Secret Four in the Fall Classic featuring the Lady Raiders, North Carolina, UCLA and LSU.

Monday's game was the team's final pre-season exhibition contest. Texas Tech will host an exhibition versus the USA national women's team on Dec. 5.
