Kristy Curry, Texas Tech Head Coach
“Anytime you can go on the road and outrebound somebody by 13 and have 25 offensive boards, it shows that you’re playing really hard. We made a lot of mistakes, we have a lot of room for improvement, but I was pleased about how our bench really stepped up tonight and helped us. Got the spark from Chynna (Brown). We’re happy to get a win but again, we’re not satisfied. We just have to continue to improve each game.”
How important has it been for y’all to get out to these fast starts like tonight and a 22-2 run to open the game?
“It’s really important for us to come out and be the most aggressive team. We play with a lot of passion and we’ve been fortunate to come out with great energy and great effort, and make plays on both ends of the floor. When you make shots, you seem to sprint a little faster on defense.”
Kierra Mallard, Senior, Forward – 16 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 steals
What had been your impression of your team’s effort so far?
“This team is like a different team from last year – being ranked, we want to play, we’re ready to play and our defense is good.”
Chynna Brown, Junior, Guard – 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists
How do you embrace that role off the bench and can you talk about your night tonight?
“I guess you could say I was just feeling it tonight off the bench. Really, I was just trying to come off the bench and bring as much energy as I could. Mainly just trying to be that spark once again. That’s all I really do. I try to guard and play defense and maybe sneak in there and get boards that we’re not getting.”
