NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Lucienne Berthieu had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Aubrey Eblin scored eight of her 14 points during a second-half run that lifted No. 15 Old Dominion to an 85-64 victory Saturday over No. 12 Texas Tech.
The Lady Monarchs (2-0) let a 12-point first-half lead slip away, and Texas Tech (1-1) went ahead 42-41 at the start of the second half.
But with Eblin scoring eight straight points during an 18-4 burst, the Lady Monarchs opened a 75-54 lead with less than 10 minutes to go.
Eblin connected on 4-of-5 3-pointers. Tiffany Thompson also had 14 points for Old Dominion, and Amanda Levens and Natalie Diaz added 11 apiece.
Rene Hanebutt led Texas Tech with 13 points.
Trailing 27-15 midway through the first half, Texas Tech used steady shooting to close the gap, with Hanebutt's 3-pointer at the buzzer pulling the Lady Raiders to 41-40.
But on a day when the Lady Monarchs honored former All-America point guard Ticha Penicheiro by retiring her No. 21 jersey in a pregame ceremony, Eblin made sure the strong first half wouldn't be enough for Texas Tech.
The Lady Raiders were playing for the first time since having to cancel a home game against Hampton on Tuesday after the Pirates' coach, her husband and an assistant coach were detained by police after a shopper at a discount store in Lubbock, Texas, accused them of running a con game. No charges were filed.
Windy Sitton, mayor of Lubbock, where Tech is located, traveled to nearby Hampton to publicly apologize to the coaches on Friday. She was among those attending the game Saturday against Old Dominion.
