Lady Raiders Post Win Over UNLV

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech guard Maria Moore poured in a career-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting to lead the Lady Raiders to a 75-63 win over UNLV on Tuesday night at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock. The win pushed Tech's record to 5-3 on the season, while UNLV dropped to 4-2. Moore also added 3-of-5 from the free throw line and dished out four assists as Tech outshot the Rebels 43.5 percent to 38.3. Forward Dominic Seals posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jordan Murphree and Ashlee Roberson scored 12 each. Jordan Barncastle grabbed seven rebounds. The Lady Raiders never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 9-2 lead in the first four minutes of play. UNLV narrowed the gap to 11-9 with 11:08 on the clock, but Tech countered with an 11-2 run for its first double-digit lead at 22-11 with 6:16 to play in the first. Murphree saw action for the first time since injuring her back in practice following the season opener against Idaho. She hit 4-of-8 shots and was 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. "I think Jordan settled us down," Lady Raider Head Coach Kristy Curry said. "She's just very strong with the ball and we're going to need her to be who she is. She was fully released. It wasn't my decision, I follow doctor's orders. She's feeling great and played well." UNLV ran off an 11-2 run in a little under five minutes in the second half to come within five points of Texas Tech, but a Roberson three sparked a 7-2 run by the Lady Raiders as Tech cruised to the victory down the stretch. Texas Tech has some time off for finals before facing New Mexico in Albuquerque on Dec. 13.
