United Spirit Arena – Lubbock, Texas

Candi Whitaker

Texas Tech Head Coach

Opening Statement:

“Glad we won but clearly we are not playing at a high level on either end. Ton of room for improvement.”

On Amber Battle:

“Honestly, I just thought that Amber made plays for her team and that’s why we won today. She got her hands on some defensive plays and got to the rim and got boards for us.”

On lack of focus:

“I know that when you are missing shots over and over again, it’s a severe lack of focus and not skill. So we’ve got to do a better job of preparing ourselves and we haven’t had the best two days of practice and how you prepare is how you play.”

On learning from game film:

“I’ll watch it. I don’t know if we’ll dwell on it. We’ve got to continue to find ways to prepare ourselves better. Find people that will bring more energy – on the floor and on the bench. I wasn’t happy with the energy that came from our bench.”

Amber Battle

Junior Guard

On career-high 15 rebounds:

“In the first half I wasn’t really being as aggressive as I could have been. So for me to go out in the second half and get rebounds for my team – it meant a huge difference.”

On poor shooting:

“There’s no excuse for it. We need to play harder for 40 minutes. And we didn’t do that tonight.”

Diamond Lockhart

Freshman Guard

On what’s been working better to make better passes and seeing the floor better:

“Just being able to see the floor and make sure I’m involving everybody as a point guard and making sure I’m getting people where they need to be.”

On shooting struggles in the first half:

“It’s probably more about preparation for the game. I think sometimes we are just going through the motions instead of going hard and making sure that we are taking game-like shots. I think it showed up in the game.”
