Lady Raiders Win Final Exhibition
The Texas Tech Lady Raiders looked like the championship contenders they are predicted to be as they smoked the Houston Jaguars 98-59 at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum on Sunday in their second and final exhibition game of the preseason.
A 24-2 run to end the first half put the Lady Raiders on easy street and enabled Coach Marsha Sharp to go deep into her bench in the second half. Rene Hanebutt and Alicia Thompson had 14 apiece and Julie Lake dished out 10 assists as six Tech players scored in double figures.
"I think we had some individuals play really well and we were pleased to get a lot of people on the floor," Sharp said. "The hardest part of my job this year is going to be finding enough slots and give people the playing time they deserve."
Crystal Boles was back in action for the Lady Raiders for the first time since her off-season knee surgery. The senior post played only eight minutes in the game but used her court time effectively scoring 12 points.
Following the game Boles commented on what was a feel-good day in the Coliseum.
"My knee is fine," Boles said. "Once it's warmed up its good to go. It was really good to be back today."
Texas Tech will open the regular season next Saturday in San Antonio at the UTSA Classic versus Texas-San Antonio. Saturday's game will be a reunion of sorts for the team as former Lady Raider Krista Kirkland-Gerlich is an assistant coach for the Roadrunners.
The Lady Raiders will face Stephen F. Austin on Sunday in an early season match up of consensus top ten teams.
