Red Raiders Win UTSA Classic

Thompson Notches 32 Point Game

SAN ANTONIO, Texas--The Red Raiders women's basketball team won the championship game at the UTSA Classic Sunday afternoon by beating Stephen F. Austin 93-83 in the final.

The Red Raiders were led to the win by senior forward Alicia Thompson who has been unstoppable of late. In the championship game she nabbed an impressive 32 points, nailed eight free throws and had a team-leading 11 rebounds. The 6'1" forward (Big Lake, TX) did all this coming off a 27-point performance in yesterday's semifinal against Texas-San Antonio.

Also solid for the Red Raiders were junior guards Rene Hanebutt (20 points) and Julie Lake (14). Lake played well defensively and was second on the team for rebounds, pulling down six in the championship game.

The Red Raiders had trouble with focus in the first half, shooting for only 35 percent (12-34) from the field. Tech head coach Marsha Sharp worked her magic during the halftime break and settled the Red Raiders enough to shoot 74 percent (23-31) in the second half and take the championship win.
