LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's basketball team heads out on the road for its first Big 12 Conference road contest of the year when it takes on No. 10 Iowa State at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
The Lady Raiders (6-7, 0-2 Big 12) are looking for their first conference win under head coach Candi Whitaker after coming up just short against TCU on Sunday.
The Cyclones (13-0, 2-0) are coming off an overtime win on the road at No. 25 Oklahoma on Sunday after beating TCU in its conference opener last week.
Texas Tech and Iowa State will meet for the 23rd time in the series and 10th time at Hilton Coliseum. The home team has dominated the all-time series with the Cyclones holding an 8-1 advantage at home and 12-10 overall in the series. Tech's lone win at Hilton came in 2002 where Whitaker scored eight points, had five assists and hit two of Tech's 12 threes.
That same success from the outside could be beneficial to Tech if it hopes to provide an upset win on Wednesday. Iowa State is the third-best 3-point shooting team in the country, averaging 10.6 made 3-pointers per game while hitting 38.8 percent behind the arc.
The game matches up two of the Big 12's top scorers and double-double threats in Tech's Amber Battle and Iowa State's Hallie Christofferson. Christofferson is second in the league in points per game (21.0) and sixth in rebounds (7.9).
Battle is third in the conference in scoring with 18.2 points per game while leading the Big 12 in both rebounds per game (8.9) and defensive rebounds (6.5). She's scored in double digits in 12 of Tech's 13 games - five times eclipsing the 20-point mark.
Both players have four double-doubles this season.
