Tech Ready For Road Test in Norman|
Jan. 11, 2013
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech notched head coach Kristy Curry her 300th win on Wednesday night in Lubbock, but would like it even more if they could give her another Big 12 Conference road win and her first in Norman on Saturday when it takes on No. 16/14 Oklahoma at Lloyd Noble Center.
Tech (12-3, 2-1 Big 12) has won its last two road games dating back to the season finale at Kansas State last year. The Lady Raiders beat No. 13/12 Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Jan. 2 to open conference play.
Tech meets with Oklahoma for the 47th time in the series with Oklahoma leading 24-22, winning 14 of the last 15 meetings. Tech is 9-13 all-time in Norman. Its last win at OU was on Feb. 23, 2005 (83-70).
Oklahoma (13-2, 3-0) is coming off a come-from behind win at TCU on Wednesday, led by guards Aryn Ellenberg and Sharane Campbell, who are averaging 21 and 17 points per game in Big 12 play.
The Lady Raiders lead the Big 12 and are No. 22 nationally with 12.3 steals per game - 185 total through 15 games.
Tech leads the Big 12 and is No. 12 nationally with a +6.9 turnover margin while giving up only 51 points per game - third in Big 12 and No. 18 nationally.
The Lady Raiders have forced 51 turnovers in their three Big 12 games this season (17 per game) and have 30 steals.
Along with its hard-nosed defense, much of Tech's recent success has been a big tribute to improving at the free-throw line. Tech is shooting 78.6 percent from the free throw line in Big 12 Conference play (44 of 56) through three conference games, which is second in the league.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Kelsi Baker, JR., FORWARD
Baker has put together three solid showings during Big 12 Conference play this season. The junior is averaging 11.3 points and seven rebounds per game in Big 12 play while hitting 83.3 percent from the free-throw line (15 of 18). She has scored in double figures in 10 of the last 12 games.
