Pierson Named Big 12 Player of the Week|

DALLAS - Texas Tech's Plenette Pierson was named Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week and Baylor's Sheila Lambert was honored as Big 12 Rookie of the Week in a vote of a media panel for games played Feb. 19-25.
Pierson, a 6-2 sophomore forward/center, averaged 24.5 points and 12.5 rebounds to lead Texas Tech to two road victories over Top 25 teams last week. She recorded back-to-back double-doubles as she poured in 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds at #16 Colorado and then numbered 24 points and 12 rebounds at #21 Texas. At Colorado, the Kingwood, Texas, native also had a career-high five blocks, while hitting 11-of-13 free throw attempts in 33 minutes of play. On the week Pierson shot 44.4 percent from the field (16-of-36) and 77.3 percent from the free throw line (17-of-22). On the year, she is leading Tech in scoring with a 14.5 average and a 14.7 average in Big 12 games only. Pierson is also the Lady Raiders' top rebounder, averaging 7.8 boards per outing and 8.9 rebounds in conference games only. She is Tech's top shot blocker with 35. Pierson has been Tech's top scorer in 13 games and the top rebounder in 12 games. She has now scored in double figures in 18 of 26 games this season.
Lambert, a 5-7 junior guard, led all scorers last week in road games at Oklahoma and Nebraska with 23 against the Sooners and 22 versus the Huskers. In addition, she dished out 11 assists and stole the ball nine times. Lambert averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 steals for the week. The Seattle, Wash., native was an impressive 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the charity stripe and 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from the floor.
