LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech forward Plenette Pierson was named second-team All-America by Women's Basketball News Service, while freshman guard Jia Perkins was named to the All-Freshman third-team, which was announced today.

Pierson, a native of Kingwood, Texas, was one of 10 named to the second team along with Iowa State's Angie Welle, while Oklahoma's Stacey Dales was a first-team selection. Baylor's Sheila Lambert and Oklahoma's LaNeishea Caufield were third-team selections, while Baylor's Danielle Crockrom and Missouri's Amanda Lassiter were fourth-team honorees.

Perkins, a Granbury, Texas native, was one of five players named to the All-Freshman third team. Other Big 12 players honored were: Nicole Ohlde, Kansas State - first-team, and Stacy Stephens, Texas - second-team.

This is the first post-season honor for both Pierson and Perkins this year.
