Perkins Gets Third Big 12 Rookie of the Week Honor

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Jia Perkins was honored as Big 12 Rookie of the Week and Baylor's Danielle Crockrom was named Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week in a vote of a media panel for final regular season games played Feb. 28.
Perkins, a 5-8 freshman guard, scored 21 points and grabbed three rebounds to help lead Texas Tech to a win over No. 10 Iowa State this week. Perkins and Plenette Pierson (15 points) combined to score more than half of the Lady Raiders' points in the game. Perkins went 8-of-13 from the field, and nailed three 3-pointers in 37 minutes of play. The Granbury, Texas, native scored 17 of Tech's 21 points in the first half and added seven assists.
Crockrom scored 29 points, including 17 in the second half, as Baylor claimed a convincing 74-57 win over Kansas State in the team's final game of the regular season. The 6-2 junior forward from Houston, Texas, led all scorers and was 13-of-20 (.650) from the floor. She also collected a career-high six steals, blocked two shots and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Lady Bears to a 20-7 mark and a 9-7 Big 12 record. It is just Baylor's second 20-win season in 20 years.
