LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's basketball head coach Kristy Curry knows her team is capable of winning a championship.

Now Texas Tech will have one more chance to prove that this season.

The Lady Raiders (19-13) were selected on Monday night to play in a postseason tournament for the third consecutive season and will host Eastern Illinois (22-8) in the first round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

"This is a great opportunity for our team to go out and win another game and play in the postseason," Curry said. "It's a great chance to go out and win a championship for Texas Tech."

It's the third appearance in the WNIT overall for Texas Tech and in six seasons under Curry and fourth postseason opportunity. Tech made it to the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season and the second round of the WNIT in 2010.

Texas Tech tries to become just the third Big 12 Conference program to win the postseason tournament. Missouri won it in 2005 and Kansas State won it in 2006.

Texas Tech first appeared in the postseason classic in 2008 and has an overall record of 2-2.

This will be the first meeting between the two programs. Eastern Illinois finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference standings with a 13-3 record in conference play. The Panthers lost to Tennessee Tech, 81-72, in the semifinals of the OVC Tournament.

Texas Tech or Eastern Illinois will face the winner of Tulane (22-10) and Mississippi Valley State (18-13), who will also play on Thursday.
