Texas Tech and San Diego face off Thursday night in WNIT|
Texas Tech and San Diego will face off for the second time this season.
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders have advanced to the third round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament at 7 p.m. on Thursday against the University of San Diego and now students have a chance to witness the Lady Raiders LIVE in postseason play for free by showing up early to United Spirit Arena.
The first 1,000 students that show their Texas Tech school ID at the Southeast ticket window will receive a free ticket for admission, courtesy of Lynnwood Townhomes. All free tickets will be distributed only at the Southeast ticket window. Those who are not in the first 1,000 can purchase tickets for only $4 at the same location.
Tickets are $6 for reserved seating. All tickets can be purchased on www.texastech.com/tickets or by calling (806) 742-TECH and toll free at 1-888-GO-BIG12.
Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Tech rolled to a 69-55 win on Sunday over Tulane to advance to the third round of the WNIT for the second time in the program's history. Tech last made the third round in 2008.
This will be the second meeting this season between the two schools.
Tech (21-13) edged out the Toreros, 58-57, in the second game of the Maggie Dixon Surf `N Slam Classic in San Diego back in December. This will be the fifth meeting overall between Tech and San Diego with the Lady Raiders holding a 4-0 advantage.
The Lady Raiders have won each of their two WNIT games by 14 points. They beat Eastern Illinois in the WNIT first round, 85-71 last week. Six different players have scored in double figures in the two games including a season-high 21-point performance by senior forward Jordan Barncastle on Sunday. Casey Morris, Kelsi Baker, Chynna Brown, Shauntal Nobles and Monique Smalls have also put up double-digit efforts.
San Diego (24-8) snuck by Cal State Northridge, 60-58 in the WNIT first round before beating Pacific, 83-75 on Sunday in the second round. Senior guard Dominique Conners, who averages 16.9 points per game and has scored 26 and 23 points in the two postseason wins, leads the Toreros. San Diego's 24 wins are the most in the program's history.
