LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Kierra Mallard has been invited to participate in USA Basketball's 2009 National Team Trials May 14-17, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The trials will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

The Dallas, Texas, native Mallard will tryout for the Women's U19 World Championship Team, which will compete in the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, July 23-Aug. 2, 2009.

During her first season as a Lady Raider, Mallard was one of the top freshmen in the Big 12 Conference and was named to the league's All-Freshman team. She led Tech in rebounding with a 7.9 average and was third in scoring at 9.8 points per game, as she played in all 31 games with 23 starts. Mallard also had a team-best 36 blocks on the year.
