LUBBOCK - Texas Tech senior women's basketball player Jordan Barncastle will take one final walk through United Spirit Arena today as a student-athlete.
Barncastle is the lone senior graduating today with her Bachelor's Degree, becoming the most-recent graduate under head coach Kristy Curry. The Lady Raiders' other senior, Kierra Mallard, will graduate in August.
"I'm so proud of her," Curry said. "JB is the type of kid any coach wants to have. She's excelled her entire time at Texas Tech and will be a great physician one day."
Barncastle majored in biology and plans to attend medical school this next year with hopes of becoming a sports medicine physician.
"It's been an amazing experience for me," said Barncastle, who is the first four-year graduate under Curry. "I'm happy that Texas Tech was where I was able to spend the last four years of my life at and I'll never forget the memories I have of playing basketball for the Lady Raiders."
The on-court success of Curry's teams has carried over into the classroom as well. In her six years at Texas Tech, 14 times her student-athletes have received Academic All-Big 12 honors and five times they have been Academic All-District.
Barncastle, a four-year letterwinner from Martin's Mill, Texas, played in 127 games with 55 starts, averaging 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Known for her outstanding 3-point shot, Jordan leaves Texas Tech as one of the all-time top 3-point shooters with 75 made in her career, including 31 this season. Jordan is a two-time First Team member of the All-Academic Big 12 Team and the 2012 representative for all Texas Tech student-athletes on the Chick-Fil-A Big 12 Circle of Champions.
