LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women’s basketball head coach Candi Whitaker completed her first staff at Texas Tech on Tuesday with the hiring of former Lincoln assistant coach Kiel Unruh as the team’s video coordinator.

Unruh comes to Tech after spending last season as an assistant coach at Lincoln University (Mo.).

“I’m excited to have Kiel join our staff and hit the ground running,” Whitaker said. “Video is a big part of our scouting and game planning every week as well as our player development teaching process. Having someone as talented as Kiel here is a great addition to the Lady Raider program.”

Before heading to Lincoln, Unruh joined the coaching staff at Stephen F. Austin in 2010-12 as the video coordinator, handling the editing and breakdown of the Ladyjacks' opponent and practice film. Unruh also coached the guards at SFA, helping the Ladyjacks reach the finals of the 2012 Southland Conference tournament and ultimately a postseason bid in the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament.

Unruh started his career off at Emporia State by spending one year as a graduate assistant for the Lady Hornets after serving as a student assistant, helping them win the 2010 Division II National Championship. He assisted with ESU's recruiting and worked as the position coach for the guards in addition to serving as the team's video and travel coordinator.

While Unruh was with Emporia State, the Lady Hornets compiled a 101-27 record, including four NCAA tournament appearances. The Lady Hornets won MIAA titles in 2008 and 2009 including taking the South Central Regional crown in 2010 en route to the national championship. Among the players Unruh has coached are three ESU first-team All-Americans, including Cassondra Boston, the 2010 South Central Region Player of the Year.

A 2009 graduate of Emporia State, Unruh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Kinesiology and Health Science from Stephen F. Austin (2012).
