LUBBOCK, Texas — Longtime Lubbock radio personality Chuck Heinz will join play-by-play announcer Steve Strain this season as the color analyst for all Texas Tech women’s basketball home games, as announced by Texas Tech University, in conjunction with Red Raider Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports.
“Chuck has a tremendous passion for the game of basketball and will bring a lot of value and experience to our radio broadcast for our fans to enjoy this season,” Tech head coach Kristy Curry said.
Heinz is in his 30th year of broadcasting since graduating from the University of Kansas in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. He is the co-host of The Morning Drive on Texas Tech's flagship station, 104.3 KTTU-FM in Lubbock. Heinz has spent time calling high school and college sports over the years as well as professional indoor soccer for the Kansas City Comets.
One of Heinz’s most notable memories was when he spent time as an intern at a Kansas City television station and had the final interview with baseball legend and Hall of Famer Satchel Paige before his death.
“I look forward to working with Steve and being a part of the Lady Raider program and Texas Tech.,” Heinz said. “I'm excited about the upcoming year, the players coming back and the new additions to coach Curry's team. I think it’s going to be a special year for the Lady Raiders.”
