Arriving in Dallas, head caoch Kristy Curry, Monique Smalls, Casey Morris and Chynna Brown pick up the rental car and head straight to the American Airlines Center for the first breakout session of the morning. Coach Curry headed straight over to take part in the Big 12 coach's public service announcemnt video shoot while Smalls, Morris and Brown took their seats by the Texas Tech sign and began answering questions about the upcoming season.
Now it's time for Texas Tech to be the main act in this media event. Head coach Kristy Curry takes the stage to answer questions from the general media as Casey Morris gets comfortable on set with Big 12 Sports Network host Wendell Barnhouse. WATCH INTERVIEW
Coach Curry answers every question from how will the team be this season to about the 20th anniversary of the Lady Raiders' 1993 national championship.
"Our players take a tremendous amount of pride in being a part of that," Curry said. "On February 17 against Texas, we are going to wear throwback uniforms that represent that 1993 team. So we're thrilled about representing Texas Tech and continuing to work toward that goal of doing that again."
The Final Leg
There's only one more set of interviews left. The girls follow coach Curry into the FOX Sports interview room one-by-one to do interviews with FSN's Brenda VanLengen. They each help say lines for a Big 12 Championship TV promo then answer questions about the team, their biggest influences and winning a title.
But one of the best answers from anyone was by senior guard Chynna Brown when Brenda asked her about leadership and being a senior.
"I don't think you necessarily have to be a senior to have leadership or lead a team," Brown said. "You just have to WANT to lead."
The girls and coach Curry finish up their last interviews as the morning session of Big 12 Media Day comes to a close. One final stop to take a picture with the inflatable Big 12 Tournament Trophy and then its off to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch before heading back to the airport to fly home.
Media Day can be a lot to handle but these girls do it with pride and grace each year and are always great ambassadors for the team, athletics department and Texas Tech University.
