Lady Raiders Host Angelo State in Exhibition

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech begins its final preparations for the 2013-14 regular season when it play its only exhibition game against Angelo State at 6:30 p.m. Monday night at United Spirit Arena.

The game is ticketed but free to attend for all fans. 

This will be the first exhibition meeting between the two teams since 2011 and third since 2010. Tech won both meetings (92-46 and 81-45).

The Lady Raiders return to the hardwood for the first time under new head coach Candi Whitaker who took over the program on May 20.

Tech returns seven players from last year's squad that made it to the NCAA Tournament for the 20th time in program history and second time in three years. The team will have not just a new look in uniforms and coaching staff but also in its starting lineup. Tech's lone returning starter, Kelsi Baker, will miss he season after tearing her Achilles during preseason workouts.

Junior guard Amber Battle returns with the most minutes from last season. Battle played in all 32 games while starting only once where she scored a career-high 12 points at New Mexico.

Tech also welcomes in five newcomers including junior college transfer Audrisa Harrison, who joins freshmen Jasmine Caston, Diamond Lockhart, Marin Lizarazu and Jamaika Hughes.

The game also pits two former Lady Raiders against each other as first-time head coaches now. Whitaker played at Tech from 2000-02 while Angelo State head coach Cayla Petree played at Tech from 2002-03.

The Belles bring back Karli Kellermeier, Leah LeMaire, Haylee Oliver, Amanda Weaver  and redshirt Hillari Adam from last year's squad that went 14-13 overall and 11-9 in the Lone Star Conference.  Eight newcomers including Ashlynn Graham, Kayla Turner, Presley Stastny, Ashley Rankine, Michelle Rosewell, Tatiana Haynes, Rochelle Norris, Khalisha Lee, Ashley Bettis and Shannon Franklin were brought in by Petree. Bettis and Franklin will both redshirt this season. 

Haylee Oliver, a honorable mention LSC selection last year, is the team's returning leading scorer 11.1 points per game and grabbing 7.4 rebounds per game. The junior has played in 54 games in her two seasons at ASU.
