Texas Tech Looking for Sports Memorabilia|
November 3, 1998
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech University athletic department is asking for donations of Red Raider and Lady Raider sports memorablila for display in the final year of the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum and the new United Spirit Arena.
Among the items requested are game programs, game tickets, letter jackets and sweaters, trophies, plaques, photographs, videos and promotional items. Each basketball and volleyball donation will be used in displays to recognize the final season of basketball in the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum as well as in the United Spirit Arena. All football and other sports memorabilia donations will be used in future displays at Jones Stadium.
"Sadly we don't have a lot of the things that our fans fondly remember from our past," said Athletic Director Gerald Myers. "This effort will help us create some interesting displays that will honor the efforts of some of our great student-athletes and coaches. It will also be fun for people to recognize our accomplishments in the last season of the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum."
The displays will be part of a celebration of the history of Texas Tech sports in the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. The athletic department is planning several events throughout the season which will culminate with the final men's and women's basketball games in late February. One promotion will involve voting for the most memorable moments in Coliseum history. Ballots will be distributed at each home game and through the Internet at http://www.texastech.com.
Anyone wishing to donate sports memorabilia to the athletic department should contact Assistant Athletic Director Joe Hornaday at 806/742-2607 or send the items to Hornaday at: Texas Tech Athletics, 6th Street & Boston Ave., Lubbock, TX 79409. All items donated will become property of the athletic department. All requests for gift recognition should be included in writing with the donation.
