Lady Raiders to Play LSU in the Secret Four in the Fall Classic|

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Lifetime Television For Women and Host Communications, today announced the pairings for the Secret Four in the Fall presented by Tampax Satin. The tournament slated for Sat., Nov. 20, in Lubbock, Texas, will feature North Carolina and UCLA in the opening game set for 6 p.m. (CST) while host Texas Tech will square-off against Louisiana State at 8:30 p.m. Both games will be aired live by Lifetime.
"It is going to be a great weekend for women's basketball with four preseason Top 25 teams competing in the Secret Four in the Fall, and the WBCA is thrilled to be a part of all the exciting action," said WBCA Executive Director Beth Bass.
The parings for the tournament were determined by fan balloting which was made conducted on the Lifetime web site (www.lifetimetv.com).
All four Secret Four in the Fall teams are ranked in the preseason USA TODAY/ESPN/ WBCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. No. 4 UCLA finished the 1998-99 campaign 26-8 and advanced to the NCAA West Regional final, losing to Louisiana Tech. No. 8 North Carolina was 28-8 last year and lost to eventual national champion Purdue in the Midwest Regional semifinal. No.14 Louisiana State was a Sweet 16 participant last season, finishing the year 22-8. No. 23 Texas Tech is coming off a 30-4 season, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Midwest Regional in Bloomington, Ill.
In addition to the tournament, Secret Antiperspirant, the Partnership of Women's Health at Columbia University, Tampax Satin and Nike will host a Self-Esteem Symposium for 200 teen girls and their mentors. The purpose of the symposium is to help teen girls develop the skills necessary to build a healthy self-esteem. Sheryl Swoopes, Gail Devers, Tina Thompson and other Nike athletes as well as Platinum R&B Recording Artist, Mya, will participate in the event slated for Friday, Nov. 19 on the campus of Texas Tech.
