Lady Raiders Visit Ronald McDonald Family Room at UMC
Dec. 16, 2010
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's basketball teamed up with Ronald McDonald House Charities to host a holiday party for children patients at the Ronald McDonald Family Room at University Medical Center Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Raiders autographed posters, decorated holiday cookies, played games and delivered toys from the Ronald McDonald Toy Cart to the children on the pediatric floor.
This party gave the Lady Raiders an opportunity to meet the children and families who are served by Ronald McDonald House Charities, as well as giving the children a time to celebrate the holidays with the team.
The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are "mini Ronald McDonald Houses" right inside the hospital. Families used the rooms to eat, shower, rest and re-group in a home-like setting. Ronald McDonald House Charities operates three family rooms inside the following hospitals: Covenant Women's and Children's Hospital, University Medical Center and Medical Center Hospital (Odessa, Texas).
The Ronald McDonald House Charities is a non-profit charity which raises money locally to support their local programs: The Ronald McDonald House, Three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and a Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. These programs are substantially supported by the local community, as well as by hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
