Texas Tech Women Second at Maxwell Berning Classic

Lowrance Three Shots Off Lead After First Two Rounds

NORMAN, Okla. - The Texas Tech University women's golf team will need a strong final-round performance on Tuesday to overtake front-running Oklahoma at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.

The second-place and defending champion Red Raiders trail host Oklahoma by 10 shots after the first two rounds of the 11-team event at The Trails Golf Club, a par 72, 6,013-yard layout. Tech fired rounds of 306 and 320 on Monday, while OU managed to shoot 301 and 315. Baylor (634) is third at the end of two rounds. Other Big 12 Conference schools include Kansas, which is in a tie for sixth at 642, and Kansas State, eighth at 652.

Sophomore Brooke Lowrance grabbed a share of the first-round lead with a one-over 73, but struggled to a six-over 77 in the second round. Oklahoma's Isabelle Blais shot 74-73 and owns a three-shot edge with a three-over 147.

Junior Kristin Kight (76-81=157) is tied for 11th, while senior Tamara Parker (79-80=159) is tied for 20th along with freshman Alana Soliz (80-79=159), who is playing as an individual. Sophomore Beth Covington (78-82=160) is tied for 25th and junior Amy Marsh (82-83=165) is tied for 40th.
