April 22, 1997 Texas Tech Finishes Sixth at Big 12 TourneyRed Raiders Finish Strong after Slow Start; Lowrance Ties for NinthLAWRENCE, Kan. - The Texas Tech women's golf team finished strong in the 1997 Big 12 Conference Women's Golf Championships, finishing sixth in the inaugural event. Tech, which began the championship in tenth place after the first round, shot a final-round 321 to conclude the tournament at 957 at the par 72, 6,100-yard Alvamar Golf Course. Texas (924), which shot 318 today, nipped second-place Texas A&M (926) by two shots to claim the Big 12 title. A&M posted the low round of the day with a 310. Nebraska (945) was third, Missouri (946) fourth and Oklahoma State (948) was fifth. Championship host Kansas (959) finished seventh, Oklahoma (965) eighth, Baylor (973) ninth, Kansas State (979) tenth, Iowa State (1001) 11th and Colorado (1009) 12th. Individually, Texas Tech sophomore Brooke Lowrance shot a three-over-par 75 Tuesday and finished among the field's top 10 with a tie for ninth at 235. Senior Tamara Parker (236) tied for 11th, while junior Kristin Kight (239) tied for 16th. Freshman Alana Soliz (251) and sophomore Beth Covington tied for 47th. Texas' Heather Bowie, who shot a one-over 73 today, finished at four-under 212 to claim a 11-shot win over A&M's Isabelle Rosberg (223). A&M's Jamie Hullett (227) finished third.
