LUBBOCK, Texas - Elin Arvidsson and Kimmy Hill led Texas Tech in its first event of the spring Sunday as the 20th-ranked Lady Raiders topped Western Texas College by 20 strokes at The Rawls Course.

Backed by 6-over and 7-over cards from Arividsson and Hill, the Lady Raiders combined to shoot a 31-over-par 219 to defeat Western Texas, which finished 51-over.

"Today was a good start to the spring for us," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "Our younger players turned in a couple good rounds and we hope that will continue throughout the spring. We'll continue to improve this week and get ready for Puerto Rico."

Kim Kaufman, the nation's top-ranked golfer entering the spring, and Hannah Arnold turned in 80 and 82 scores to complete Tech's final card. Gabby Dominguez finished with an 83 final score while Beverly Mendoza withdrew from the event after 13 holes.

The event was won by WTC sophomore and future Lady Raider Stephanie Bertelsen, who fired a 3-over 75 on her future home course. Bertelsen signed with Texas Tech in the fall and will join the program for the 2013-14 season.

The Lady Raiders continue their spring slate in exactly a week as Tech tees off the prestigous Lady Puerto Rico Classic held in San Juan next Sunday.
