LUBBOCK, Texas - With a third-round score of 305 on Tuesday morning, the No. 49 Texas Tech women's golf team dropped to ninth place in the final standings of the 2010 Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Resort in Rio Grande, P.R.

Texas Tech finished the three-day tournament with a combined score of 908 after posting rounds of 303, 300 and 305. The Lady Raiders finished ahead of two Big 12 foes in Oklahoma and Iowa State and were just one stroke out of sixth place. No. 8 Alabama took home the team title with a low team score of 827 while Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State earned medalist honors with a three-round total of 209.

"We set ourselves up to finish with a good round and place well in a strong field but made some mistakes coming in," said Texas Tech head coach JoJo Robertson. "It hurts to miss sixth by a shot but we will learn from it."

Junior Alex Gibson rallied on the third and final day with a score of 73 to move into a tie for 23rd, up 15 spots from 38th after round two. Freshmen Kim Kaufman and Gabby Dominguez finished just one stroke behind Gibson at 228 and ended the tournament in a tie for 28th.

Texas Tech will make a return trip to Las Vegas for its next tournament in early March when the Lady Raiders take part in the UNLV Invitational March 8-10.
