LUBBOCK, Texas - Behind freshman Robyn Scott's solid one-over 73 opening round, Texas Tech women's golf found itself just nine strokes back with a solid 14-under 302 in a field chalked full of top 50 teams Sunday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

Sixth-ranked Alabama and No. 30 TCU currently sit in a tie for first place at five-over 293. No. 41 Florida State and Arkansas are tied for third, while No. 27 LSU and Central Florida Round off the top five teams. The Red Raiders currently sit in a 12th -place tie with Michigan, only five strokes out of fifth place.

Scott's strong 35 over the front nine helped boost her to an opening-round 73 and a tie for 11th place, just five strokes behind the leader. Fellow freshman Stephanie Smith also chipped in a strong round of 75 to put her in a tie for 29th. Megan Dowdy is right behind at 76, while Ulrika Van Niekerk, 78, and Gloriana Soto, 84, rounded off Tech's team scoring.
