Arvidsson Takes First Day Lead at Westbrook Spring Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - Elin Arvidsson took a share of the opening-day lead at the Westbrook Spring Invitational Sunday as the sophomore led No. 13 Texas Tech into a tie for second place with one round to play at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz.
The Lady Raiders wrapped the day with a 36-hole card of 585 that was tied with Washington for second and two strokes back of first-day leader Arkansas. Kansas State concluded the day 18 strokes back of Tech in sole possession of fourth place.
Tech shot a 12-over-par 300 first round and then a tournament-best 3-under 285 to jump up the leaderboard. It matched the Lady Raiders' lowest 18-hole score of the year from the season-opening Ptarmigan Ram Classic final round.
The play of Arvidsson and top-ranked senior Kim Kaufman have the Lady Raiders in contention entering Monday's final round after the pair finished 2-under and at even-par collectively.
Arvidsson overcame a 3-over 75 in the morning to shoot a 5-under 67 in the afternoon, marking the lowest round in the 75-player field. She ended the day tied with Washington's SooBin Kim and Arkansas' Gabriela Lopez atop the leaderboard.
Kaufman, meanwhile, remains in contention for her second medalist honor already this season as the senior is two strokes back in a tie for fourth following 73 and 71 cards. The Clark, S.D. native is looking for her fifth top-five finish already this season in just her sixth event.
Beverly Mendoza wrapped the day inside the top 20 as well as she is tied for 13th after 77 and 72 scores. Hannah Arnold and Kimmy Hill completed Tech's card with 155 and 159 cards to finish tied for 42nd and 59th overall, respectively.
