LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team shot a 21-over-par 309 earlier today in the first round of the 2002 Tapatio Springs Shootout in Boerne, Texas, to sit in second place. Tech trails five strokes behind first round team leader Tulane University with tournament host Baylor University only three strokes behind Tech in third place.

The Red Raiders made a strong appearance in the first round of competition as all five players finished in the top 25. Leading Tech is junior Stephanie Dukes and freshman Megan Hull as each player shot a 76 in the first round to tie for tenth with five others.

Senior Jennifer Newhouse sits in a five-way tie at 17th after shooting a six-over-par 78 while teammates Jackie Ey and Kim Kolb shot a seven-over-par 79 tying for 22nd.

Tech will look to carry the momentum into tomorrow's final round of play with a 7:45 a.m. shotgun start at the Tapatio Springs Golf Resort.
