LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team clinched its first win of the season with a one-stroke victory over second-place finishers Baylor and Tulane. The Red Raiders shot a combined score of 613 (309, 304) to win the title at the 2002 Tapatio Springs Shootout in Boerne, Texas, earlier today.

The Red Raiders moved up the boards in the individual standings as three players finished in the top 10. Stephanie Dukes finished in the top 5 for the third time this season as the 5-foot-8 junior shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round for a total score of 149 to tie in fourth place.

Teammates Jennifer Newhouse and Megan Hull finished in a five-way tie for 10th place as Newhouse makes the top 10 for the second time this season. This is the first time for Hull to make the top 10 as a Red Raider.

Freshman Kim Kolb shot identical rounds of 79 to tie in 26th place making it her best finish as a Red Raider. Sophomore Jackie Ey rounded out the top 50 as she shot a combined score of 160 to finish in a tie for 37th.

Winning the first tournament of the season is a confidence boost for the team as it has been struggling in its spring campaign.

"We knew it was just a matter of time before we would see the results," said coach Stacey Totman. "Today's win is a huge one for us. There's still a lot of work to do but this win builds up momentum for us in the postseason."

The women's golf team will travel to Norman, Okla., April 9-10 for the Susie Maxwell Classic competing in their last tournament of the season before the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship.
