LUBBOCK, Texas - Gabby Dominguez took the opening-day lead at the Marsh Landing Invitational Monday after combining to shoot a 5-under-par 139 to lead No. 19 Texas Tech over two rounds in Jacksonville, Fla.
The performance gave Dominguez a three-stroke lead over the Purdue tandem of Laura Gonzalez and Paula Reto heading into Tuesday's final round. Her 3-under 69 opening round marked one of only two sub-70 scores on the day. She followed with a 2-under 70 second round.
Dominguez has finished with medalist honors twice already in her illustrious career and will look to become the first Tech player to ever win three tournament titles.
Behind Dominguez, the Lady Raiders wrapped the day in third place with a 4-over 580 that was one stroke back of Iowa State for second and six behind first-day leader Purdue. Tech opened the tournament with a 5-over 293 first round before rallying to shoot 1-under over the next 18 holes in the afternoon.
Kimmy Hill had Tech's next lowest two-round score as she rebounded from a 76 opening round to shoot 2-under later in the day. She concluded the day tied for 18th overall.
Tech will be chasing its fourth tournament title of the year Tuesday in what is the Lady Raiders' final event prior to the Big 12 Championships. No Tech team has ever won more than three tournaments in a season.
The final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday morning at the Marsh Landing Country Club. Fans can keep up with the results throughout the day at www.golfstat.com.
