Texas Tech's Alex Gibson recorded her first top-five finish of the year as she led the Lady Raiders to a third place trophy in the 2010 Baylor Spring Invitational at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco on Tuesday afternoon.
Gibson, a junior from Nevada, used a 77 on the final round to clinch fifth place individually after recording a pair of 75s in the first two rounds of the tournament.
The third place team finish is the second bronze medal for the team this year and first consecutive top-three finish of the season for the Lady Raiders as they head into the Big 12 Conference Championships in Norman, Okla., April 23-25.
After sitting in fourth place after the completion of round two, the Lady Raiders took advantage of outstanding final round performances by freshman Kim Kaufman (76) and freshman Gabby Dominguez (77) as the team surpassed Arkansas-Little Rock for the third-place position. Individually, Dominguez finished the tournament tied for seventh place while teammate Kaufman rounded out the individual honors for Tech with a 12th place finish.
The host team, Baylor Lady Bears, claimed top honors in the team standings while Jaclyn Jensen of Baylor took home the individual championship as well. Fellow Big 12 conference opponents, Oklahoma, finished just ahead of the Lady Raiders in second place while Kansas State followed close behind in sixth place.
