MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Texas Tech women's golf team completed the first of three rounds of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championships in Manhattan, Kan., earlier today shooting a 318 to sit in seventh place and five strokes short of its top-five goal.

Senior Jennifer Newhouse leads the Red Raiders shooting a 76 in the first day of competition to sit in an eight-way tie at ninth. Junior Stephanie Dukes shot a 79 to tie for 27th and teammate Kim Kolb tied in 34th place after shooting an 81. Freshman Megan Hull finished in a four-way tie at 37th after shooting an 82 and sophomore Jackie Ey shot an 84, tying for 48th.

Defending Big 12 champ, Oklahoma State University shot a 293 to pace 13 strokes ahead of the competition after the first round. Baylor and Oklahoma are tied for second place while Texas (312) trails six strokes behind in third place and Kansas State (313) rounds out the top five.

OSU's Emma Zackrisson and Christi Cano finished round one in first and second, respectively, in the individual standings. Jennifer Tannehill of OU sits at third while BU's Nicole Johnson, Annie Thurman of OSU and Iowa State's Leanne Owens are tied for fourth.

Fans can view results throughout the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship by logging onto Tech's official athletics web site at www.texastech.com and clicking on the link "Live Stats" under the Upcoming Events calendar for women's golf.

With just two spots shy of its goal, Tech will look to move up the boards in the second round of play tomorrow with an 8 a.m. (CST) shotgun start on the par 72 Colbert Hills Golf Course.
