Women's Golf Finishes Eighth At Big 12 Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's golf finished in eighth place after shooting three rounds at the fifth annual Big 12 Tournament in Harvester, Iowa. The Red Raiders carded a 967 to place ahead of Big 12 opponents Kansas State, Iowa State, Colorado and Kansas. The Raiders shot 344, 312 and 311 and finished two strokes behind defending champions Oklahoma. Oklahoma State shot a 925, to win back the Big 12 Championship after winning in 1999 then losing in 2000 to Oklahoma. This is Oklahoma State's 18th Big 12 Tournament win. Maria Boden of Oklahoma State won the tournament with a score of 227. Sophomore Stephanie Dukes led the Red Raiders with a 10th place finish, improving from last year's finish of 19th. She finished the tourney with a round three 73 after shooting a round one 83 and round two 78. Her 234-stroke finish at 18 over par was the same as last year's performance. In her last Big 12 Championship appearance, Priscilla Hunt shot a 239 to tie for 19th. She shot a first round 83, second round 76 and third round 80 at 23- over par, for her second best finish of the year. Junior Jennifer Newhouse shot an 89, 79 and 77 at 29-over par for a 32nd place finish. At her first Big 12 Championship, freshman Tamara Munsch shot a 254 at 38-over par to tie for 48th. Her individual rounds included 94, 79, and 81. Freshman Jackie Ey shot a 256 at 40-over par with a round one 89, round two 82 and round three 85, to finish in a tie for 50th. Playing in ten tournaments on the year, Tech finishes 78-168 in overall play and 25-55 in conference play. Tech will lose senior Priscilla Hunt who has played for Tech throughout her collegiate career.
