Texas Tech in Sixth Place After Second Round|
April 26, 2014
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Tech senior Hannah Arnold shot a 2-over par 74 to lead Texas Tech in round two of the Big 12 Championship at UT Golf Club on Saturday.
Tech (295-306--601) sits in sixth place through two rounds and just nine shots behind third-place Kansas (592). No. 7 Oklahoma leads all teams at 7-over par (583).
Arnold consistently took advantage of birdie opportunities, hitting five on the day - including one on No. 17 to finish her final four holes 1-under. She moved up the leaderboard into a tie for 13th.
"I missed a few putts early on but was able to make up for it by making some longer putts on the back nine," Arnold said. "I hit the ball really solid today and missed only a few fairways ... but I was able to manage the golf course really well since my irons were dead on target the whole day."
Junior Stephanie Bertelsen stayed in the top 10 after a 4-over 76 while sophomore Kimmy Hill moved up three spots to a tie for 31st after a 3-over 75. Junior Elin Arvidsson and redshirt freshman Victoria Uresti each finished at nine over on Saturday.
Tech will try to move up into at least the top four by the end of Sunday's final round if the Lady Raiders hope to make one more push toward being selected for their fifth consecutive NCAA Regional.
"I think the most important thing tomorrow is that we're ok with pars," head coach JoJo Robertson said. "Pars are going to turn in a great score. We can make everybody else force it, but if we just play like we can, we're right there."
Tech will play the final round on Sunday alongside Iowa State and Baylor beginning at 8:50 a.m. CT. Follow live stats at www.golfstat.com.
