LUBBOCK, Texas - Kim Kaufman remained tied for ninth Wednesday following the second round of the NCAA Championships being held at the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Tenn.
The Texas Tech junior, who fired a 2-under card to open the 72-hole event, finished with a 1-over 73 score during the second round, moving her two-day total to a 1-under 143, five strokes back of tournament leader Brooke Pancake of Alabama.
Kaufman moved to as high as third during the second round following back-to-back birdies on the par-4 eighth and par-5 ninth. She was 1-under at the time before posting a pair of bogeys during the back nine.
The Clark, S.D. native will have to remain consistent over the final two days in order to put herself in position for her first tournament title. Kaufman leads all other individuals playing unattached from a team by five strokes.
Her teammate Gabby Dominguez, meanwhile, will have to work her way up the leaderboard over the final two days to contend as she recorded a 2-over round to move to 5-over for the tournament. Dominguez was 4-over through most of the back nine before back-to-back birdies on the final two holes.
Kaufman and Dominguez will be paired together for the first time all tournament Thursday when they and Arizona's Margarita Ramos tee off at 8:25 a.m. from the opening hole.
