LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team got a makeover in the summer and it showed today in Fort Collins, Colo., as freshman Kim Kaufman helped lead the Lady Raiders to a third place standing after the first round of the 2009 Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic hosted by Colorado State.

JoJo Roberston, who took over the program in June, had a successful coaching debut in the Scarlet and Black and was pleased with her squad's effort on the first day of this two-day tournament.

"I am really proud of this team and what they accomplished today," said Robertson. "It was a long day and they got stronger as the day went on. All of them felt like they left some shots out there, so we are looking forward to tomorrow's round."

Kaufman, a freshman from Clark, S.D., led the way for Texas Tech as she fired a two-under- par (142) and ended the day in a tie for eighth place. In round-one, Kaufman shot a 69 (three-under-par) while ending the day with a 73 (one-over) in round-two.

Senior Rosalyn Kim, playing in the top position for Tech, tied for 12th after shooting even par (72) in the first round and ended the afternoon with a one-under-par (71).

The remaining three players on the tournament roster for Tech all finished in the top 25 with Gabby Dominguez tying for 16th (two-over), Bevery Mendoza tying for 21st (three-over), and Alex Gibson coming in tied for 25th (four-over).

The University of Idaho leads the event after day one while host Colorado State sits in second place.

The 2009 Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic will wrap up tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (CT)
