Women's Golf Improves in Final Round at New Mexico
Sept. 26, 1998 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Texas Tech University women's golf team improved significantly over the first two rounds en route to a 14th-place finish at the Jones Intercable/Dick McGuire Invitational golf tournament. The Red Raiders, after rounds of 323 and 322, fired a 17-over-par 309 in today's final round and finished at 954 over the par 73, 6,069-yard University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course. Southern California fired a 302 today and won the tournament by one shot with a 914 total. TCU finished second at 915. Oklahoma State (923) finished fourth and Texas (925) fifth. Texas A&M (945) finished 12th and Oklahoma (966) was 15th. Individually, junior Jamie Vannoy tied for 24th with a 3-over 76 today and a 233 total. Senior Brooke Lowrance tied for 33rd at 235 after a 5-over 78 today. Sophomore Priscillia Hunt, who shot 4-over 77, finished tied for 65th at 244 with senior Beth Covington. Covington fired a 5-over 78 in the final round.
