No. 43 Women's Golf Claims 2009 Heather Farr/CU Memorial Tournament Title
Oct. 6, 2009
LUBBOCK, Texas - New Texas Tech head women's golf coach JoJo Robertson didn't have to wait long for her first career tournament win. In just the second outing of the season, Robertson guided the No. 43 Lady Raiders to an impressive win at the 2009 Heather Farr/CU Memorial held at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo. "John (Cleary) and I couldn't have asked for anything more out of the team," said Robertson. "They were tough, played hard and fought all the way to the end. To have Alex (Gibson) win individually makes everything that much better." Texas Tech totaled a three-round score of 886 (290, 296, 296) to finish 18-over and claimed the title by 12 strokes over second place Nebraska. The tournament win is the first for Texas Tech since the Lady Raiders claimed the 2007 Jeannine McHaney Memorial at the Rawls Course in Lubbock. Junior Alex Gibson claimed medalist honors as she finished 3-under par in the three-round tournament by posting scores of 70, 71 and 72. The tournament marked her first finish in the top five and it's the first outright individual title for a Tech player since Kim Kolb won the 2004 Price's Give `Em Five Intercollegiate. Senior Rosalyn Kim picked up the second top five finish of her career as she finished third with a three-round score of 220 (4-over; 74-74-72). Freshmen Kim Kaufman ended the tournament in a tie for 15th (10-over) while Beverly Mendoza finished in a tie for 18th at 11-over and Gabby Dominguez ended in a tie for 22nd at 12-over. Tech jumped out to a commanding lead on Monday after the first two rounds of play and didn't let inclement weather conditions play a factor. The Lady Raiders posted an impressive first round score of 290 before closing the day with a round-two score of 296. The first round score of 290 ranks as the third lowest 18-hole total in school history. Texas Tech returns to action on Oct. 26 as they travel to Las Vegas for the 2009 Las Vegas Invitational.
