Tech Women's Golf Stands at 15th After First Round

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Texas Tech women's golf team stands at 15th after shooting a first round total of 322 Monday at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M., hosted by New Mexico State University. The University of New Mexico leads the first round with a five-stroke advantage over Baylor University, while tournament host NMSU and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock are tied for third. Leading the Red Raiders, Megan Hull and Jackie Ey are tied with eight other players at seven-over-par 79. Teammate Sheila Mendez sits in a 12-way tie for 48th after shooting an eight-over-par 80. Sophomore Kim Kolb tied for 83rd after shooting an 11-over-par 83, while freshman Hazel Tan shot an 86 on the day to tie for 93rd. In the individual standings, UNM's Kellyn Newman takes the first round lead at even par 72. Trailing one stroke behind Newman, Melanie Hagewood of BU and Tai Kinney of San Jose State University are tied for second.
Tech will look to improve its standing with the second round starting tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees on the par 72, 6,303 yard University Golf Course.
