Women's Golf Moves Up One Spot to 14th in Second Round

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Stepping up one spot to 14th place, the Texas Tech women's golf team completed the second round of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M., Tuesday with a 322-307-629 total. Tournament host New Mexico State University (305-291-596) takes the second round lead with a five-stroke advantage over Baylor University. The El Paso, Texas, native Sheila Mendez lead the Red Raiders after firing a career-low round of 74 to tie for 26th with four other players on the day. Teammates Megan Hull and Jackie Ey moved up to the No. 35 spot, both sitting in a six-way tie at 12-over-par 156. Sophomore Kim Kolb made an 11-spot leap to tie in 74th place at 19-over-par 163, while freshman Hazel Tan struggled in the second round dropping three spots to tie for 96th. NMSU's Alena Sharp leads the second round in the individual standings at one-under-par 143, while fellow NMSU teammate Kelly Cavanaugh trails two strokes behind in second place. Baylor's Melanie Hagewood, Maria Svensson of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Texas Christian University's Brooke Tull sit in a three-way tie for third at three-over-par 147.
The Red Raiders will look to advance up the leaderboard again with an 8 a.m. final round shotgun start on the par 72, 6,303 yard University Golf Course.
