LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech fired a 17-over-par 305 card for the second-consecutive round Wednesday as the 15th-ranked Lady Raiders finished in fourth place at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
Oklahoma ran away with the event as the host Sooners fired a tournament-best 8-under final round to finish with a 29-stroke lead over second-place Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish finished 24-over for the tournament while third place Denver finished a stroke up on the Lady Raiders at 34-over.
"Today was a disappointing day for us," said Tech head coach JoJo Robertson, whose team began the day in second place overall. "We knew Oklahoma would be tough to catch on their home course, but we didn't even make a run. We will work this week to improve and be ready for when we leave for Wilmington."
Kim Kaufman finished fifth individually to lead the Lady Raiders, who also fell to Oklahoma in the same tournament a year ago. The senior fired a 3-over 75 final round to finish even-par for the tournament in what was her second top-five finish already this season.
After a difficult second round, Hannah Arnold provided Tech's lowest score of the day with a 2-over card that put the junior 15-over for the tournament and in a tie for 54th overall.
Kimmy Hill, meanwhile, came close to her second-straight top-20 finish as the freshman recorded a 5-over final round that slid her into a tie for 24th at 10-over for the tournament. Gabby Dominguez registered Tech's final score with a 7-over round while Beverly Mendoza finished a stroke back of the senior as well.
Defending NCAA individual champion Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma claimed top medalist honors after a 4-under final round gave her a two-stroke advantage over both Sarah Schober (Redlands Community College) and Lindsey Weaver).
The Lady Raiders close the fall Oct. 26-28 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. before the 2013 spring season begins Feb. 10 with the three-day Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
