LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team will open its spring slate Sunday morning as the 20th-ranked Lady Raiders will host Western Texas College in 18 holes of stroke play at The Rawls Course.

Tech added a date of competition to its schedule after the Landfall Tradition was cut to just 18 holes in late October after Hurricane Sandy caused the final two rounds to be cancelled at the three-day tournament held in Wilmington, N.C.

The 18-hole event will be Tech's first on its home course since the 2009 Big 12 Championships that was hosted at The Rawls Course. Tech was originally scheduled to open its spring slate Feb. 10-12 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic held in San Juan.

Backed by the top-ranked golfer nationally in senior Kim Kaufman, Tech heads into the spring following a highly successful fall campaign where the Lady Raiders claimed the season-opening Ptarmigan Ram Classic while also turning in third and fourth place performances at the Landfall Tradition and the Suzie Maxwell Berning Classic.

Head coach JoJo Robertson will use six players off her seven-person roster against WTC as Kaufman, Hannah Arnold, Elin Arvidsson, Gabby Dominguez, Kimmy Hill and Beverly Mendoza will all take part in the event.

The Lady Raiders will also face one of their future teammates in WTC sophomore Stephanie Bertelsen, who signed with Tech this past fall to join the program for the 2013-14 season.

The tournament begins with a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start Sunday morning.
