TEMECULA, Calif. - The Texas Tech women's golf team opened the season by finishing seventh in the 12 team Pioneer Electronic Bruin Classic held at the Menefee Lakes Country Club. The Red Raiders shot 315-302-311=928 for the tournament. Tech finished five strokes ahead of third-ranked nationally University of Southern California.

Four of the six teams that finished ahead of the Red Raiders (Oklahoma St., TCU, Oregon and UCLA) are ranked in the top 25 nationally. Oklahoma St. (297-296-301=894) won the tournament, easily finishing ahead of second place Pepperdine (317-298-297=912). Taking medalist honors was Oklahoma State's Maria Boden (72-71-74=217) who led the tournament from start to finish. Finishing second was USC's Jennifer Rosales with a total of 223.

Freshman Jennifer Newhouse led Tech and finished tied for 13th overall with a 12-over-par 228. Senior Brooke Lowrance finished strong after being in 48th place after the opening round. She shot 84-74-76=234 to finish tied for 31st. Heather Wrede and Jamie Vannoy finished tied for 35th and 37th respectively. Beth Covington tied for 43rd place.

The Red Raiders will be in action again on March 12-14 at the LSU-Fairwood Invitational in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
