LUBBOCK, Texas - After two weeks off from the links, the Texas Tech women's golf team returns to Arizona this weekend for the Notre Dame Clover Cup held at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa.
The tournament is Tech's second straight in the state of Arizona as the Lady Raiders are coming off a second-place performance at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in late February.
Tech set a new 54-hole record during its last trip to Arizona as its 856 final card was seven strokes better than the previous school record set in 2008 at the Heather Farr Memorial.
In addition, Kim Kaufman and Gabby Dominguez set the individual 54-hole record as well with a 207 card that left the pair in a tie for second overall. Kaufman enters this week ranked 42nd nationally with Dominguez earning a No. 36 ranking.
The two juniors have led the Lady Raiders throughout the season as Kaufman is averaging 72.3 strokes per round with Dominguez posting a 72.4 average of her own. Kaufman has finished in the top 20 in all seven tournaments this year, including three top-five finishes, while Dominguez has five top-10 performances as well.
The Lady Raiders will have to sift through another challenging field as five of the 12 participating teams are currently ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek. Tech, which is ranked 29th by the publication, is the second-highest team in the poll, trailing only No. 15 Colorado.
Tech will be paired with Florida International and Furman during Friday's 9 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. To keep up with the action, fans can log onto www.golfstat.com to follow the live results.
