ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Texas Tech women's golf team shot an opening-round 301 placing them third in the 24 team Utah-Dixie Classic at the Sunbrook Golf Course.

The University of Kansas leads the tournament with an overall score of 294. Oklahoma State University is five strokes back in second place at 299.

Junior Jamie Vannoy leads Tech and is tied for sixth overall after firing a two-over-par 74. Vannoy tied for medalist honors at last years event. Seniors Brooke Lowrance and Beth Covington are one stroke behind Vannoy and tied for ninth overall at 75. Freshman Jennifer Newhouse (77) is only two strokes back of her senior teammates. Junior Heather Wrede rounds out the Tech playing group. She is shot 85 and is tied for 98th place.

The individual leader is Susan Tessary of Kansas. She finished her round with an even par 72. Her teammates Ashley Lowery and Mandy Munsch are tied for second with Louise Davis of Northern Arizona and Oklahoma State's Eva-Lotta Stromid.

The tournament will conclude with 27 holes tomorrow. A shotgun start is scheduled for 8:00 am.
