NORMAN, Lubbock - Behind a blistering team total of 307, the 42nd-ranked Texas Tech women's golf team jumped to a first round lead at Susie Maxwell Berning Classic held at the 6013 yard, par 72 Jimmie Austin/University of Oklahoma Golf Course.

Tech slumped to a second round total of 317, tying them for fourth overall after two rounds with the University of Missouri. Thirty-six of the 54 holes were played today. Host school the University of Oklahoma leads the tournament shooting a two-round total of 607.

Leading the way for the Red Raiders was senior Brooke Lowrance who is tied for seventh place overall after firing a two-round total of 153. Junior Heather Wrede is second amongst the Red Raiders and tied for 18th overall with a 156. Beth Covington and Jennifer Newhouse are tied for 40th at 160. Jamie Vannoy shot a 161 placing her in a tie at 43rd. Also competing for Tech as an individual is Priscilla Hunt. She shot a total of 164 tying her for 53rd place.

Texas Tech won the tournament in 1996 and placed second in 1997. Lowrance tied for medalist honors in '96 and was second in '97.

Oklahoma's Wendy Martin leads the tournament after shooting a 143. Her teammate Jennifer Tannehill is tied for second with Sorrel Richman of Baylor. Both shot 149.

The two-day tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday, April 13 with a shotgun start scheduled to begin at 7:30 am.
